Bluegrass with Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum and Robin & Linda Williams at the Rogue Valley Universalist Fellowship in Ashland, Oregon.
St. Clair Productions presents An Evening of Bluegrass with Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum and Robin and Linda Williams on Friday, May 9, 8 p.m., at the Unitarian Fellowship, 87 4th St., Ashland. Tickets are $25/adv., $28/door, $10/12-17 and free under 12. Tickets available at www.stclairevents.com, 541-535-3562 or at the Music Coop in downtown Ashland.
Laurie Lewis – Grammy winner, bluegrass trailblazer, singer and fiddler extraordinaire – performs a batch of new songs with her favorite musician, mandolin maestro Tom Rozum.
The International Bluegrass Music Association twice named Laurie the Female Vocalist of the Year and she won a Grammy for her contribution to True Life Blues: the Songs of Bill Monroe. She’s recorded more than 20 albums – with the Good Ol’ Persons, Grant Street, Kathy Kallick, and her current band Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands, as well as several solo projects – and is now working with many talented new artists, helping them find their way in the recording business.
Tom, a native New Englander, first joined forces with Laurie in 1986 as an original member of Grant Street, and may well be the rightest of all the Right Hands. He and Laurie collaborated on a beautiful, Grammy-nominated album of duets, The Oak and the Laurel, and he also has released a wonderful solo album, Jubilee, recorded with an all-star cast of musicians including Laurie, Mike Marshall, Herb Pederson, and Darol Anger.
No Depression magazine praises Robin and Linda Williams for creating "music that is both comfortable and thoughtful - a rare combination that explains why and how the Williamses are able to keep on an even keel while musical trends come and go. They don't play at being country - they are country."
For over three decades, Robin & Linda Williams have made it their mission to perform the music that they love, "a robust blend of bluegrass, folk, old-time and acoustic country that combines wryly observant lyrics with a wide-ranging melodicism." The list of artists who have covered their original songs include some of the greats of country music, names like Emmylou Harris, Tom T. Hall, Tim & Mollie O'Brien, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kathy Mattea and Mary Black.
Robin and Linda Williams first performed on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” in 1975 and have been a regular on the program ever since. They were prominently featured in the motion picture written by Garrison Keillor and directed by Robert Altman.
